A&P Tyne delivered a major feat of engineering for the new polar research ship for Britain - the RRS Sir David Attenborough – working alongside a network of UK ship-builders to deliver complex fabrication to the very highest specification.

A&P Tyne was contracted to build the 899 tonne lower aft stern section of the vessel, also known as block 10 during the fabrication process.

A&P’s specialist team of engineers and fabricators invested more than 175,000 man hours in the fabrication of the stern, which is the equivalent weight of 71 London double decker buses and is more than 23 meters long and 24 meters wide.

The successful completion of block 10 was the result of the combined efforts of A&P’s management team and its highly skilled section leaders and engineering support teams. A&P’s operational and technical teams worked closely with the lead contractor throughout the build and this was crucial to the project’s successful conclusion - on time and to an exacting specification.

Many A&P apprentices gained vital training and skills on the block build project.
